NAGAPATTINAM

The devotees were not satisfied with this vision also and they continued their prayer
till they saw God in full glory. God who was pleased with their perseverance and their devotion condescended to appear in his full divine beauty--Lord Vishnu with four hands holding Sankha, Chakra, Gada and Padma. The figure was so majestic and so
enchanting that the devotees were so engrossed in it. Because Vishnu appeared in such a beautiful form, the deity in the standing posture is called Soundararaja Perumal.

Because Nagaraja got the blessings of Vishnu here, the place has, been named after him as Nagapattinam.

It is said that Sage Dhruva came to this place in Krita Yuga, Chaitra Masam, Makha Nakshatram day, the day of festivity in this
temple now, in order to conduct his penance.  Lord Vishnu is seen here with his consort Sundaravalli Tayar. This is one of the 108 sacred places of the Vaishnavites.
