This
prakaram, (enclosure) is known as Vibhuti Prakaram and the wall as Vibhuti Wall. The
legend connected with the
construction of the wall is as follows:
When the Chola kings were building the temple and the surroundings a voice was heard:
"Don't build the fourth compound
wall." In accordance with the divine message received, the construction of this wall
was not taken up. One day, the Lord in the form of a Sanyasin (mendicant) came to this
place and took up the construction of the wall. 'Me labourers were given pinches of sacred
ash for the work done by them, which turned into gold afterwards. |
