THE ORIGIN OF APPU LINGAM
Once Devi Parvati had a doubt and approached Siva for clarification. He directed her to
conduct penance at Tiruvanaikkaval, Accordingly, the Devi came to this place and made a
Lingam out of water particles and commenced worship. So, the Lingam is known as Appu
Lingam (Water Lingam) and even today water can be seen oozing out of the Lingam when the
Kaveri or Coleroon is in flood.
Lord Siva at last gave darsan to Parvati and
cleared her doubts. He told her: "Just as a dancer dances before his disciple to
train him in that art, so also, we first a family life to teach people how they should
live as husband and wife; and then, we led the life of ascetics to teach the people
how they shot worship the Almighty to get salvation at the end." |
