"Among
the trees I am aswartha-pipal tree and I am abiding in it. Worship offered to
it, tantamount to offering worship to me" proclaimed Bhagawan Sri Krishna
during his Githopadesa to Arjuna. Since then the pipal tree is treated as a
highly venerated object and elaborate prayer services are offered with
unbounded spiritual ardor than to any other tree. Worship confers several types
of boons. For santana prapti scriptures advocated it and devout orthodox theists
are implementing the Bhagawan's adesa and are getting their desires fulfilled.
Even in the Vedic and post Vedic periods too, the aswartha worship was in
practice and so in every place of human habitation there were aswartha trees
planted and worshipped. Around them, high platforms are built to enable people
worshipping with ardor due. Several instances of the ruling celebrities getting
children on ardent prayers to it, are recorded in legends and history Not only
the tree, its bark, leaves are used for sacred purposes. No yagna is complete
without using its twigs.
