If the edifying tenets like righteous conduct, perfect discipline, right
discrimination and divine contentment, enshrined in the little poems are made to
form the bed-rock of education and are taught with sincerity - in all
seriousness, I am sure, the tiny tots will blossom themselves into paragons of
virtue, capable of living in peace with Nature, and in peace with themselves.
This accounts for the inclusion of such mighty poems from the works of eminent
poets in the selections prescribed for the tiny tots in the Primary Schools.
The term 'TINY TOTS', the second part of ,the title demands elucidation now.
Literally it means, 'small children', but I intend more by it. Accordingly, it
implies youngsters and the aged, i.e., it encompasses people of all age .groups.
I deliberately discredited, rather de-recognised the chronological age, since,
age and intelligence
always ill go together. Mental age is the only criterion, and it should alone be
kept in mind in imparting the morals of the poems in question.
Moreover,
the method of imparting the message embodied in the poems should be different,
and necessarily deviates from the beaten track-narration of the story and
explaining its moral at the end. As the contents are decidedly weighty,
effective reception presupposes elaborate preparation, simple diction, penitent
illustration, consistent repetition, powerful exhortation, right motivation and
proper orientation complete the picture and generate effective interaction
between the teacher and the taught, and it alone yields bumper harvest.
