According to
legend Sri Mahavishnu did penance propiating Lord Suryanarayana for 12 years to
get her karunakataksha after sage Brighu's rash action. No sooner was her wish
fulfilled and regained her former position she chose to abide in this Kshetra,
where great sage Sukhabrahma lived along with Munikulam. A little flash
illumines the cause of her descent to Bhuloka.
There
are several versions trying to lift the curtain on Mahavishnu's appearance on
the sacred Hills; each has its own setting, time and situations, and what is
more each makes a credibly delightful reading, due to the divine, fragrance it
is anointed with. According to Padma Purana, once there was performed a great
yagna in Naimisaranya on a grand scale attended by celestials too. During the
course of it, there arose a dispute regarding the supremacy of gods among the
Trimurthis. Each learned scholar and spiritual luminary advanced his argument
with evidence justifying his selection. The plethora of proofs in respect of
each claim was so confusing that the elders thought it fit to send one sage for
on-the-spot observation and report the findings for conclusion by the committee
formed for this. The choice fell on Sage Brighu, son of Brahma. Brighu first
went to Kailas.
