This thirtha kshetra lying on the eastern bank of holy river Swarnamukhi, though predominantly a Saivakshetra, is luring theists of all denominations in lakhs round the year, since the Vedic period. On account of the eternal presence of Gouri and Shankar here, to lifting of the erring-either the highest like Brahma, or the lowest-an insect, this mokshapuri has acquired the honorific title of Dhakshina Kailas. 

Its enchanting history spinning round the four yugas links up haven with the earth through a multiplicity of events, enlightening ultimately that bhakti should be the consummation of one's existence, and that alone paves sure way for Sayujya prapiti. It is here the potency of the Panchakshari is published to the world through the Mother Parvati. Each of the episodes that occurred on this Punya Dharithri left indelible imprints on the surface in the form of holy ponds, high hills, flowing waters, sacred shrines etc., and they narrate how Lord Maheswar emancipated the penitent sinners by correction and benediction.
