It
has a fantastic story that sheds light on the superb mastery
attained by those divine sculptors, who in fact can surpass even
Viswakarma and Maya. His said that such a giant statue was
sculptured in a matter of half-an-hour. Thrilling! It appears that
on one particular day, there was delay in serving food to the
workers. They fancied to make one Nandi in the mean time. All worked
together with one mind under the leadership of their master, with
such lightening speed that within 30 minutes, they completed it. A
great feat! The Mahamantapa built with 68 huge, sturdy pillars, is
decorated with excellent stories in pictures. And the ceiling too.
The life-size figures of the builder Virupanna, images of
Chaturmukha Brahma, Narada, Rambha, Tumbura, Annapurna, Mritunjaya
and Padmini are done with such efficiency that they seem ready for a
dialogue, if desired and used their tongue. The artistic excellence
reached zenith, beyond which there is nothing to go up. Among the
rare sculptural pieces that deserves attention is the Antariksa
Sthamba- a pillar hanging from the ceiling secms touching the
ground. Has not the sculptor excelled Maya? This is a sculptural
wonder of higher order.
