The
king came ....learnt the abuse of powers ....went to straight to see
for himself the temple rising. Though overwhelmed with its grandeur,
interior and exterior, he could not make compromise with the abuse
or powers by his own trusted officer. When anger grew
uncontrollable, he ordered the plucking out of eyes as punishment
for Virupanna at once. The listening accused to once, with his own
hands plucked out his eyes and dashed them against the wall. N o
need for mercanary's hand; for, he knew it was against the norms he
did - a treason - a betrayal of trust, though excusable on the
ground of sacred purpose. It is a breach of trust first and last. A
man of his character should not do. Perhaps for that, the marks made
by the eyes on the wall are still seen teaching a lesson. Sure,
loyalty to royalty acquires regality, if one understands the reality
of its import and implements in its entirety. Despite that sordid
episode ended in tragedy, if left behind a rare gem of highest
quality among the works of plastic arts. Seeing is convincing, and
visiting is chastening. So visit it first for full satisfaction to
eye, mind, heart and soul.
