Say
"Tirupati" and watch the reaction, rolling the eye balls
from corner to corner- uttering 'Namo Srinivasa' twice, a bearded
sadhu looks at you from top to toe, if it is in the thritha kshetra,
atop the highest summit, like Kedar; muttering "Om
Venkatesa", a priestly looking man instantly folds his hands,
if it is in the upper gangetic plain near Haridwar; 'Voh Srinivasa
Mandir' darts from the lips of a saffron-clad sanyasi with palms
joining, if it is in Varanasi; "Will you do me the favour of
dropping this note into Hundi?" comes a genuine request from a
gray-haired spiritual pandit, if it is in Ayodhya; 'Balaji Bhagawan'
leaps out from the mouth of a pot-bellied saint, while his urchins
clapping hail Govindaa, Govinda in ecstasy; if it is in erstwhile
Bombay Province; "How lucky are you Bablaji to belong to that
sacred place" saying, a Bengali Babu pats on your back, if it
is in Calcutta; "Elumalai Sannidhi" is heard anon from a
pious man with upraised hands in an act of prayer, if it is in the
Kanya Kumari; "Ah! Tirumala Timmappa" is the joyous
exclamation that escapes from a Kannadiaga, if it is in the former
Princely State of Mysore, etc., etc., etc., will greet your ears,
while scene after scene of the persons reacted fill your soul with
devotion.
