VIJAYAWADA - MATA KANAKADURGA TEMPLE  

Its reads - the Devinavaratri Festival celebrated at Kanakadurga temple is a unique annual event.  Here are the details.  One interesting feature during the Vijayadasami Day is the prominence given to Police Department in conducting the festival.  It dominates the entire event and directs every activity.  The temple authorities too willingly allow them to have their free hand. 

It attracts lacs of people;  for the grand scale display of decoration, illumination together with pomp and splendour pervading the entire Kshetra due to special prayer services to the Mother's icon, which is equal to none but to itself.  It has an awe-some back ground.  During the pre-independent period, when the white men held high offices, they denied the legitimate part of the Hindu enthusiasts.  Their power, of course, though not welcome, it curtailed unbridled license of some elements, bent upon disorder and its loathsome effects.
