VIJAYAWADA - MATA KANAKADURGA TEMPLE  

Mother's Miracle and its Aftermath:

The story goes that a certain police officer being pompous and power-intoxicated announced at the beginning of the festival, his imposing of ban on the customary display of weapons on that day by any local chieftain, or the temple authority too, though it has been practised over centuries.  Being a day set apart for Ayudapuja, his action was resented.  Mediation, persuasion, solicitation all went up in smoke.  All for his fall only.  People in fear, put up the humiliation in tight-lipped silence.  Would the Mother Kanakadurga brook defeat or relish such intervention?  Certainly not!  She took the white man's intervention offensive and stopping of the age-old display of weapons an insult to her.  So she resorted to the demonstration of her mighty powers.

Soon things moved mysteriously, and as a result the officer received a cable from England that he was dismissed due to abuse of powers.  Before quitting, he quashed his own order of stopping the display of arms, might be due to some mysterious power and joined the public celebration with utmost jubilation.  Here is the miracle!  Erelong he received another cable from England reinstating him to the previous post, canceling the dismissal ordered already.  His cup of happiness was full.
