THE
MAIN TEMPLE
This
lies at about 2 km from the station. It is of modest dimensions, the interior
and the exterior belie the glory it proclaims and pitiable it is that poor
maintenance and inadequate attention peep at the pilgrims from every frame. Many
parts are in dilapidated condition. As one enters and proceeds towards the
garbha griha only antiquity lays itself bare everywhere, but the sights of
congregations of priests, chanting hymns; clusters of pilgrims offering pindas
and scores of devout persons observing them lift 'his heart. The spacious court
hall is adorned by the most venerated Vishnupadas and Dharmasila and in front of
them people in their, hundreds huddle engaged in obeying the directions of the
teamed brahmins. The image Adi Gadadhara is quite enchanting both in size and
decoration. The temple contains quite a good number of mini shrines dedicated to
the adorable gods and goddesses and among them the shrine of the sun-god draws
the pilgrims most. Pilgrims normally visit them after a dip in the Phalguni
river flowing beside the temple. While returning, they invariably buy copper
plates embossed with the footprints of Lord Sri Mahavishnu.
