Tiruppuliyur
- Mayappiran Ambalam
Despite
being a hamlet without adequate transport convenience, or boarding cum lodging
facilities, this Divya Desa dedicated to Mayappiran is luring pilgruns
throughout the year. Its glory lies in the fact that the archamurti was
installed by Bhima, the second of Pancha Pandavas, during their sojourn in this
holy land. The Moolavar is in standing posture decorated with a dazzling silver
kavacha, heightened by the exquisite adornment with precious jewels and garlands
that lifts the souls of the viewers at its first sight itself. The Goddess
called Porkodi Natchiyar is infinitely charming. The august Saptharishis were
blessed with the darsan of this Omnicompassionate Lord once. The temple Pushkarini
is called Pajgna saras and is filled with pure water useful for holy bath and
temple worship. The Vimana is called Purusothama Vimana. Nammalvar and
Tiruntangai Alwar visited this place and offered ever fresh garland of pasurams
eulogising the glory of this Lord. It is a typical Keralite temple built in the
architectural style of the land. Daily worship is offered with great devotional
zeal and the annual festivals and celebrated with due pomp and splendour.
It
lies 5 km off Chengannur, a famous temple town of Kerala, accessible by bus.
