Somanath - Daityasudan Mahavishnu Mandir
Among the many
visit-worthy places in the holy Somanath kshetra, this lone Vaishnava temple
holds out irresistible attraction for asthikas and paryatakas as well. It was
materialised at the behest of the Lord himself in a dream to the deserving
devotees. On account of its fascinating past and grandeur of construction with
modernity peeping at the visitors, it is luring all that visit the yugas-old
Somanath shrine.
This
shrine was built in the last century, and the idol of Mahavishnu is quite
impressive. When the main temple was destroyed, this rare idol was preserved
under earth at a place called Chakra thirtha. As the story goes, Lord Maha
Vishnu appeared before the ardent devotees - Umasankar Desai and Vishamber Bhatt
in dream and directed them to disenter and built a shrine for him. They did. It
is a grand shrine of modest dimensions.
As
it is located in the Main Bazaar, the visitors of Somanath Shrine reach it on
foot and offer soulful prayers on listening to its awe-some past.
