Viraval
- Krishna Mandir
This
kshetra commemmorates the gruesome episode of an imbecile hunter's
making the target of the toe of the resting Krishna Bhagawan, under
a tree and witnessing his final exit from this world. Krishnavatar
began in the Kamsa's prison cell and ended in the then uninhabited
forest area, but beautified by the sumptuous growth of green
verdure, mirroring the blooming primeval Nature that seduced the
Jagadguru to rest and brood over the unexpected annihilation of
Yadukula by the curse of Durvasa. It had no name then, but in
KaLiyuga it was christened as Viraval.
This
is an up-coming industrial town humming with pilgrims always. There
is a modestly built, decent temple dedicated to Sri Krishna. The
idol painted in multi-colours installed on a high dias feasts the
eye and it is perpetuating the sacred spot of Krishna's demise.
Hearing the sthalapurana, the visitors offer asrutarpan gaping and
gazing at the Navamohanana Krishna. Hence visitation by all.
It
lies at 5 km off the famous Somanath shrine in Gujarat state,
accessible by four wheelers or train.
