SECRET OF HAPPINESS

How can one get saanti if he continuously goes out in quest of external things? Such an outside object would come and go. What does it matter if it comes or goes? Let it come if it does. Then it shall be made one with that which is the nature of supreme joy and which is resident inside of one, which is the very core of one's being.

A number of big rivers flow into the ocean. The ocean admits them into its bosom. Those rivers originally went out from the ocean. They now come back into it. When they come back, they be come one with the ocean.

Even so, the 'external' joys are only particles of the aananda, which is inside our being. When they arise, they must be mentally fused with the inner aananda, they must be understood to have only sprung out of that aananda, that they do not have an existence in their own right. Instead, these outside pleasures should not be sought as external objects. One should not go out of oneself in search Of them. If one realizes that all are only inside, one attains saanti: sa saantimaapnoti.
