All rivers flow into the ocean. They all
become One with the waters of the ocean. If a river does not flow into the ocean, does the
ocean feel unhappy? How is the ocean? It is forever full. it remains unmoved, unagitated
by any feeling of deficiency. It does not pine for the waters of this river or that.
Even as the ocean receives into itself all water flowing into it, so should a man
receive into his inner being all the so-called 'external' joys and mix them with the ocean
of aananda, which is his Self. It is the all-pervasive, aananda that marks the Self of
every person. Any joy that comes from out side must become one with that Self.
One's real nature is the 'full' poornam, what is plenary. One must educate oneself
to feel one's identity with that Supreme Self as plenary aananda.
When that consciousness dawns, the little
joys of the world will not require to be sought as they will be seen to be only fractions
of the universal bliss one always enjoys. Such a one would say to oneself: "Let any
joy come; it shall merge with my inner joy. If it does not come, no regrets; for the
so-called 'external' joy is only a reflection of my inner joy." Such a one remains
enjoying the saanti of an ever full and unmoved ocean.
