From him Ravi
Varamas uncle Raja Raja Varama had learnt the art of painting.
When that uncle found Ravi Varmas aptitude from paiting, he encouraged him and gave
him the first lessons in painting.
Later on Ravi Varma was brought to the palace where he took lessons from one Ramaswamy
Naidu, who was the courtpainter.
An English painter by name Teodore Jenson had come to Trivandrum in 1868 at the invitation
of the Maharaja.
From him Ravi Varma learnt the technique of painting in oil colours.
There are different media of painting, like oil colour, watercolour, crayons, etc.
