RAVI VARMA |
|
Ravi Varma's
paintings belong to the class of paintings called "Realistic". In other words,
they are just as we see, men and
things; only they are more beautiful.
Opinion is divided on the quality of Ravi Varma's paintings.
A vast majority of people in our country like his type of work; for, it is easy for them
to feel one with them.
There are others, particularly in the West, who do not like this type of realistic
painting.
They want the artist to bring out in the painting, the soul, i.e. the meaning behind it
and not the actual subject, even though, in the process, the picture may not be perfect
anatomically.
There is no doubt, however, that Ravi Varma has helped the religious minded people of our
country very much by his
Paintings, of gods and goddesses. |
