RAVI VARMA

It was at this time that the Dewan ofBaroda Sir Madhava Rao suggested to RaviVarma to make use of the printing process, to
reproduce his paintings in large numbers.

Acting upon his advice Ravi Varma established a special printing press in Bombay for reproducing his paintings.

The process by which paintings are now reproduced in large numbers in this manner is called litho.

Most of the colour pictures of gods and goddesses and calendar pictures are printed today in this manner.

It is Ravi Varma's paintings printed by this process that adorn almost all Hindu houses today, particularly in the south.

His press is now situated in Malvali on the way to Poona from Bombay.
