RABINDRANATH TAGORE |
|
That is the
Nobel Prize. It is the greatest honour today.
Rabindranath was the first Indian to win that award.
Rabindranath not only wrote poetry, but stories, plays and essays too. More than that, he
was a great patriot. Our national song JANA GANA MANA was written by him.
The father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi loved and respected Rabindranath. They were great
friends.
The Tagores were a rich and noble family of Bengal. They owned large properties.
Rabindranaths grandfather, Dwarkanath, was affectionately called Prince Dwarkanath
because of his generosity. Rabindranaths father Devendranath was a very learned and
wise man. He was also a social and religious reformer. He was called Maharshi Devendranath
because of his learning. |
