RABINDRANATH TAGORE

Teachers and students live together in Guru-Kula system. Classes are conducted in the open air. Our late Prime Minister
Indira Gandhi was a student at Santiniketan.

During the last twelve years of his life, Tagore painted many original paintings. They too have become famous.

Tagore built a mud-hut for himself at Santiniketan. He called it Shyamali. That was his work-spot. He got up at three in the morning and meditated. He never took rest during afternoons even in the hot summer. He did not even use the fan, but kept the window of the hut open for natural breeze to blow. He was such a great lover of Nature.

He fell ill seriously in 1937 and recovered. But in 1941 he fell ill again and passed away on August 7. The whole world mourned his death.

Tagore has written a number of books in English and Bengali. Some of them are translated into other languages too. They are poems, plays, stories, etc.
