RABINDRANATH TAGORE |
|
Almost all the
members of the family were poets, writers, artists or musicians. The family ran a magazine
called Bharati in which many of them wrote.
Rabindranath was born in such a famous family in the year 1861. He was one of seven
children.
As a child, Rabi was very shy. That was because his father was a strict disciplinarian and
also because he lost his mother at a very early age.
The Maharshi often went out of the city on business and Rabi was left to the care of
servants. This made him feel lonely.
He often sat in his room all by himself looking out of the window and admiring the tall
trees and beautiful flowers in the garden, the blue sky and the brown earth, the crystal
lake and its silvery waters.
When he was first sent to school, he saw how students were treated there. They were
severely punished for mistakes. His teacher also did not take to him kindly. So he shied
away from school. |
