AKBAR

Akbar was deeply religious. He prayed four times a day. He slept sparingly and ate but once a day. He progressively gave  up meat although he continued to drink wine without however becoming a sot.

In religious faith he was catholic. He held discussions with leaders of all religions and sought to integrate all religions into  a universal religion to which he gave the name Din-ilahi, meaning Divine Religion, whose cosmopolitan character, however, did not appeal even to his close associates. He endeared himself to non-Muslims by the revocation of the discriminative Jazia tax.

Man Sing, the Rajput prince, was the trusted general of his army. These forward ideas did not catch, because they were too early for the times.
