After three centuries of faction fights and foreign domination, the Guptas were able to
bring about the integration of the people by the unique weapon of Dharma, which they
not only upheld in all its ramifications, but also enriched and enlarged its scope. They were able to maintain and help the historical process of
continuity and conscious unity by affirming their faith in the Vedas as the ultimate
source of knowledge and within this framework, mythology, tradition, rituals, language,
literature, rules and ideals of conduct, arts, science and modes of life became
integrating forces. |
