etc. He patronised both Hindu and Buddhist scholars.
Chandragupta II conquered Malwa, Gujarat and Kathiawar. One result of it was he made
Ujjain also the capital of his Kingdom, besides Pataliputra. Soon Ujjain became a
great centre of trade and commerce.Chandragupta II
issued coins in silver and copper with Garuda and the umbrella imprinted. These coins are
finished skilfully. It was during his reign that literature flourished. The nine gems of
whom you have read lived and prospered in his Court at this time. Temples came to be
built. In short, the best phase of Indian culture flourished during his reign. |
