Sanskrit
terms like yoga, karma, gurus, mantras, Kundalini and chakras have
entered into common parlance and become the basis for many new
insights. Hinduism - which has
appeared as a contracted religion, in retreat, and perhaps on the
verge of self-destruction for the last few centuries - is
experiencing a new revival and expanding its influence all over the
world. Its related teachings under different garbs - like Vedanta,
Yoga, Tantra, and Ayurveda - are one of the main thrusts of the new
spirituality.
In its modern renaissance Hinduism
has not ceased to be a belief-oriented religion, it never was one.
As Sanatana Dharma or the universal tradition, it has always been an
open tradition, accepting the best in science and religion, and
allowing great freedom in its approach to the spiritual life.
A Hindu spirit, a sense of universality,
tolerance and non-exclusivism is arising in the minds of people
throughout the world. Therefore it is important that we reexamine
this spiritual tradition.
Sanatana Dharma, the oldest of the
world's religions and perhaps the most dynamic, helps us in this
process of universalization because it is a religion that has
emphasized spiritual aspiration over the clinging to particular
forms. So let us dive deeper into this great legacy in order to
discover our greater potential, which is not merely human but
Divine.
