As our
materialistic science breaks through the ideas of time and space, we must begin to see the
value of a spiritual science, a science of consciousness which encompasses all of life,
outer and inner, a science of the eternal and the infinite. To rebuild such a spiritual
science, we can find much of value in the ancient Vedic and Hindu teachings. This does not
mean that we need only follow what remnants of Vedic science we have left today. Nor does it mean that India today is a model culture for the world
to follow. Much of the ancient system is fragmented, scattered and worn by time. We need
to recreate it and integrate it into our own lives and our own world situation. It is not
a new science for us to become slaves of but a way of knowledge that gives freedom, which
awakens creative intelligence and allows us to go beyond all dependency upon external
forms.
A science which rules us is a form of ignorance
(nescience). It is the test of true knowledge that it gives freedom to both the mind and
heart and helps us to understand and respect all humanity and all of life.
