SRIKURMAM |
|
There is a famous
Kshetramahatmyam in this temple which was told by Rishi Dattira to Vyasa. The Sthalapurana
says that the sage heard in his dream from Lord Hari himself the details about the
greatness of Srikurmam. According to this Sthalapurana, there was a mountain called
Swetachala in which King Suta was ruling. The queen was a pious lady and the king
approached her on a Suddha Ekadashi day, which was a day dedicated by her to prayer and
meditation. The queen prayed to the Lord that her Vrata should not be broken, and Lord Sri
Kurmanatha, ordered Gangatirtha to flow in between the king and the queen, so that the
queen's Vrata may be fulfilled. The king, thus separated from the queen, lived on the
banks of the Vamsadhara River, where one day Rishi Narada met him, and told him that he
could bring upon himself the blessings of Sri Hari by doing proper penances. |
