KIRITESVARI TEMPLE |
|
With the
setting of the Moslem rule and the advent of the British rule the glory that was
Kiritesvari came to an end.
At one time Kiritesvari temple was what the Kalighat temple is today in Calcutta. Nawab
Zafar Ali Khan was administered the Charanmrit or Kiritesvari Devi by his faithful friend
and counselor Maharaja Nand Kumar just before his death. In more recent time Raja
Ram Krishna of Natore did some repairs to Kiritesvari temple. He used to go to the temple
whenever he would come to Murshidabad.
Kirtitesvar temple is all nostalgia now.5 In the rainy season it is difficult to go
to the temple, as the marshes become full of water and snakes and insects abound.
5 The meal is now held on every Tuesday during Magh
month. It is not known when the change was made (District Gazetteer of Murshidabad, by
L.S.S. OMalley, (1014), p. 80. |
