| Introduction This writer had the unique opportunity of visiting Kaladi in May
1965 when the Sankaracharyas of three maths-Sringeri, Dwaraka and, Puri met here to
participate in the Sankara Jayanti celebrations. It was unique because rarely do
Sankaracharyas of different maths meet together. Such a meeting in which all the four
Sankaracharyas. Including that of Badrinath came together on a common platform took place
15 years later-May 1979-at Sringeri which, it was said, was the first meeting in 125
years. The Kaladi meeting was therefore an event of importance 'and all Kerala and the
neighboring States enthusiastically welcomed the holy men.
