The sages began to
do penance and meditation. Time passed. Saint Suta visited the place to see how the sages
were progressing in their spiritual efforts. Suta was the chief disciple of Vedavyasa and
a staunch devotee of Siva and chanted the Panchakshara Mantra, Sivaya Namah, incessantly.
He had the benefit of learning all the 18 Puranas and led a life of great devotion
besmearing his body with holy ashes and ever telling Rudraksha beads. He was the holiest of the holy and his presence brought great calm and
inspiration to the minds of the sages, as if they had been blessed with their cherished
desire. Their joy has been compared to the feeling of a calf at the sight of its mother;
of the peacock at the sight of clouds; of a lotus at the sight of the rising sun; of the
lilies opening to the moon. |
