| The laws of nature
were obstructed and stopped for the time being. To reverse the course of the laws of
nature or obstruct them is a great sin. Parvati did it out of jest only, without thinking
of the consequences, for the moment. The sudden gloom over the Universe startled the
thirty crores of Devas, forty-eight thousand saints and the animals. They came in a
deputation to Goddess Parvati to give them light. Then only did Parvati realize her folly
committed out of fun, and released her hands. Parvati
requested Siva to advise her how she could get rid of the sin. Siva told her: "You
should visit the 1008 sacred places of the earth dedicated to me, and worship at each
place. Where you will feel a, sensation on your left arm and left eye, stay there and
conduct meditation. I
will appear at that spot and have re-union".
Parvati came with her seven associates (Sapta Matrikas), Indrani, Kumari, Vaishnavi,
Maheswari, Brahmi, Varahi and Chamundi. She worshipped Lord Siva at many places-Kalahasti,
Tiruvannamalai, Srisailam, Kasi, Tiruvarur, Chidambaram, Kancheepuram, Jambukeswaram,
etc., and bathed in all the holy rivers. Even after many days of pilgrimage, she could not
find the holy place where she had been ordained by Lord Siva to perform penance. She
became dejected very much but continued her pilgrimage. |
