One night, the
black figure of Veerahatti appeared before Rama and terrorized him. On the next morning,
Rama approached Vasishtha who advised him to do as already directed by the oracle. Then
Rama proceeded to Vedavana accompanied by Sage Vasishtha, Shatrughna his brother, and
Sita. On his reaching the place, the Veerahatti made a roaring noise. This made the Vinayaka stationed there on the West Side and facing the east
turn to the west from which direction the sound was coming. He raised his legs to deal a
terrific kick to the intruder, the ghost following Sri Rama, and gave a Hoonkara. The
Veerahatti got terrified and stood dumbfounded. On the spot where the ghost stood, a stupa
has beenconstructed, which is almost obstructing the entrance from the western gate.
From the outer prakaram to the stupa inside, a stout bamboo is
placed to obstruct the Pilgrims going that way. It is said that if anybody by mistake goes
round the stupa the Veerahatti ghost will follow him. |
