VEDARANYAM

It is believed that a man attains salvation if he dies in any of the following places:

Gangadwar, Pushkara, Kasi, Prayag,Gaya, Badrinath, Kurukshetra, Ganga Delta, Somnath, Mahakalam (Calcutta), Gokarnam, Kalahasti, Kancheepuram, Vriddhachalam, Arunachalam (Tiruvannamalai), Chidambaram, Kaveri Delta, Tiruvengadu, Tiruvalangadu, Shiyali, Tirukkadaiyur, Mayooram (Mayavaram), Kuttalam, Vaitheeswaram, Tirukkodikkaval, Mangalavamsam, Maddhyarjunam, Tirunageswaram, Kumbakonam, Tiruvalan- chuzhi, Tiruvayyar, Tiruppanturutti, Tiruppazhanam, Vasislitheswaram, Tiruvanaikkaval, Tiruvanchiyam, Tiruvarur, Rameswaram, Madurai, Tiruchangumalai, Tiruchendur, Kanyakumari, Sucheendram, Vilvavanam, Bheemeswaram, Parijata- vanam, Nagapattinam, Vedaranyam.

Vedaranyam is said to be the place where Siva granted to Agastya his darsan in the form in which he married Parvati at Kailas. So Vedaranyam was called Dakshina Kailasam. Agastya prayed to Siva to be enshrined there for ever in his matrimonial form and also added that such of the people who have a darsan of Him in this matrimonial -attire on Sunday that falls on the seventh day of the bright half of the month of Chitra and also on the Masi Makham day should be blessed.
