ASOKAS AS A PREACHER |

| He vowed to conquer the hearts
through non-violence and peaceful means. And launched a religious propaganda thenceforward. And
thus the monarch became a missionary. Ah! what a change?
But it must be clearly understood that his change is not the outcome of any defeat, or disgrace. But it is the fruit of a great, clean, perfect victory and hence second to none but to itself. When his quest was thus
completed, he took refuge at the sacred feet of Buddha. Hence the conquest of Kalinga marks the
greatest turning point in the glorious life of Asoka. As it produced results
of far-reaching consequences, it is indeed one of the best known events in the history of mankind.
