A
new shrine is coming up befitting the status of the Lord and will be
opened with due Saivagama rules shortly. Adjacent to this lies a
beautiful row of three temples built for Vinayaka, Nataraja and
Sivakami Sundari. Offering prayers to them, we next hurry to
Malleswara Swamy temple, where a grand Sivalinga was worshipped
first by Brahma with jasmines and followed by several celestial
celebrities, like Vishnu, Indra, Brihaspathi, in addition to
incarnations, like Sri Rama, Sri Krishna; together with
Matadhipathis, like Adisankara anti Maharshis such as Goutama,
Vasistha etc. Being All-merciful, he is Justifying the attribute
bhakta pari jata by raining boons on the ardent devotees timely and
abundantly. At all times too. This shrine, though given importance
next to that of Mother Kanakadurgeswari, has many legends equally
awe-inspiring, and antiquity
that begins in the hoary past. One of the legendary accounts dates
back to the beginning of this Kaliyuga. And to be precise it took
place as early as year 177, when a certain king by name Madhava
Varma extended his sway over this region. It was during his reign
lord Siva rained gold,
and so the city went by the name of Kanakapura for some ages.
