There
lived in the capital then one old woman living on selling tamarind-tintrini
jivini - She had a son, an only one at it. She brought him up well,
intending to lean upon him during her advancing in years. Alas! this
young boy met his death at the ands of the Crown Prince by mere
accident that intent deep or malice. Learning this, she walked to
the court with eyes streaming, heart heaving and head reeling. She
narrated her pathetic tale to Madhava Varma. Seeing that Sokadevata
narrating her heart-rending misfortune, he was moved beyond
description. Renowned as an incarnation of justice, he at once
passed the verdict - death by hanging to his own son-the king
designate. The audience fell prostrate at his Judgment. There
descended then the Omni - compassionate Siva and showered bright
pieces of gold on the King in token of his appreciation. God, making
kanakabhishek to a human! It is only Siva that could demonstrate
such acts spectacularly exemplary. He gave life to the dead. The
grateful king built on imposing shrine and installed a Siva linga
unique at that place. It is on this Indrakila this occurred.
