Going
round and round he returned to this calm forest and started
performing penance. He continued it for there years, and gods being
pleased with it advised continuance of the same for a further period
to win the favour of the Highest. But his doting father descended to
the spot and persuaded him to refrain from the rigorous tapas; he
wanted him to return to the capital for happy life. He plead to be
left alone, but to no effect. When father's persistence and adamancy
touched the pinnacle, he changed himself into an elephant first and
finally became the mountain so that his body would enjoy the grace
of God's padasparsa - touch of the feet when Lord Narasimha takes
his seat on this hill and that makes him freed from all anxieties.
What a devotion! How much intensity!! When would similars spring
from this land!!! The Holy hill was recorded in the puranas as the
Hastisringi Parvatha. A meaningful and fitting honour to a devotee
of that rare type.
