Later
in the Kritayuga, there developed a great calamity to the people of
this country by the atrocities of Namuchi demon, who practically
converted this area into Bhuloka Rajadhani for Yama by his causeless
rancour and sadistic acts. Unable to endure, the affected prayed to
Lord Mahavishnu in utter helplessness. The Lord descended in his
Narasimharupa and put him to instant death by his potent Sudarsana
Chakra. The grateful devotees prayed for another boon - he
should remain there on the hill eternally to be accessible for their
regular prayers and constant darsan. He accepted, and so has been
remaining alone on this hill keeping vigilance over his ardent
devotees ensuring eternal protection, and down below with his
consort Rajya Lakshmidevi to receive and respond to their petitions
made from time to time.
