SWARNAMUKHI
RIVER
According
to Sthalapurana, this holy river originally was flowing off the
temple under the name Uttaravahini, but at the behest of Agasthya it
has been flowing touching the, temple walls to the benefit of the
pilgrim. Normally, all pilgrims bathe in this sacred river before
entering the temple. It is in this at a certain spot Mother Parvathi
was taking bath before becoming Prasunambika. That place goes by the
name of the Gnanaprakasa thirtham now. There are several sacred
thirthas named after those who did penance on the banks, bathed in
them. Among them, Brahma Thirtham, Saraswati Thirtham, Harihar
Thirtham, Mayura Thirtham, Mooka Thirtham, Chandra Pushkarini,
Markandeya Thirtham, Brahmavidya Thirtham, Kanka Durga Thirtha etc.
are very famous and are visited by pilgrims.
