Opening
the leaves of South Indian history relating to the period of sixteen
seventies, we read the pathetic conditions of Hindus under Muslims
and it is too deep for tears, to say the least. The ruthless inroads
of Muslim bigots not only stripped the incalculable Health of the
Marathwada region, but also divested the honour of its honourable
people by their inhuman atrocities. Many nationalists leaders singly
and jointly opposed the cruelty and religious fanaticism of the
powerful rulers. But, as in the case of past, there was neither
unity among the combatants, nor lofty nationalist's spirit. In
consequence, history - defeat repeated. Of the many, who boldly
repelled, revolted, resisted an stood against the barbarous Muslims.
Shivaji, stands foremost and none could stand comparison with him.
But fate reversed his grandiose maneuvers and unbeatable
expeditions. Defeat after defeat was thrust upon him by malefic
stars. Down in spirits caused by the mighty Muslims, he left his
native land and sought asylum in Srisailam.
