Abode of Lord Jagannath
Nivedya ritual is unique. The Bhoga, or food offerings of Jagannath is called
Mahaprasad. Perfect equality is maintained in the distribution of the Mahaprasad.
All-from prince to pauper are equal in claiming and partaking it as evidenced by
the observance of eating by all at a time in one place, sitting side by side. As
many as 64 delicacies each is a culinary triumph are offered to the Lord with
elaborate rituals. The method of cooking too is unique and they use earthenware vessels only. Seven distinct dishes are cooked at a time in seven vessels of
different sizes, keeping them one over the other and placing on one oven.
