TIRUNALLARU
Certain
persons--divine or human receive adoration more for their inherent
nature than their potentialities. Ironical it seems that more than
the benefic nature, the awesome malefic intention draws people
towards it and keeps them as vassals. To cite an illustration from
divine personages, Saturn can be singled out and by his awesome
office and seemingly arrogant nature he is extending his sway both
over terrestrial and celestial worlds. Though he has but a few
separate shrines, he finds minishrines for him in every temple and
is invariably worshipped more out of fear than bhakti. Incurring
wrath to him means inviting untold misery and insurmountable
suffering. His grace elevates people and ensures a carefree sojourn
in the world.
There
lies a reputed temple for Sani Bhagawan at Tirunallaru, 5 km off
Karaikkal, once a French principality, but now under the governance
of Tamil Nadu. This famous abode is an integral part of the temple -
Dharbasayaneswar, one of the several names of Lord Siva. Here Lord
Saturn is installed in an imposing niche, inside the outer wall of
that big Siva temple.
