Tirusalagramam
- Srimurthy Perumal Temple
Among
those Vaishnava kshetras lying on the otheiside of the Indian boundary, this
Divya Desa ranks first and deemed foremost for the chief region that Nepal
though not an integral part of India, is sharing many Hindu ways of life and is
adoring Hindu gods in an inimitable way deserving instant emulation and ardent
veneration. Is not their National Deity - Pasupathinath is one among the Trimurtis
adorning the highest place in the Hindu Pantheon? This ancient kshetra is
situated on the bank of river Gandaki. The Sthalapurana embodies the account of
the supreme devotion of a devout Vesya, who was blessed with the darsan of
Brahma and Rudra on this sacred spot. Her merit worthy dedication to
Bhagavadaaradhana was so extra-ordinary that Lord Srimannarayana decided to
dwell here in the name of Srimurthy Perumal to be adored by her always, in
addition to devout bhaktas. The icon is superbly sculptured and it is facing
north. The standing posture of the archamurti adorned with colourful garlands
and dazzling jewels lifts the souls and raises the hands of the visitors in
devotion. The Mother is called Sridevi Natchiar and looks exceedingly enticing
in the Nepali costumes and style. The Vimana is called Kanaka Vimana. The temple
Pushkarini is called Chakra thirtha and devotees bathe in the Pavana Gandaki
river in addition to this one. Regular prayers is offered though some bizarre
traditions characteristic of Nepali customs greet the eyes. Among the Alwars,
Perialwar and Tirumangai Alwar reaching this kshetra after months of arduous
trekking poured out their souls in the form of sweet pasurams and their
Mangalasasanas arc recited with great devotional fervor.
It
lies on the river tlandaki, accessible only by walking a distance of nearly 40
km from Amlakganj railway station in Nepal, and Kathmandu, the state capital can
be reached either by air from Patna, the capital of Bihar, or by four wheelers
from Banaras. A tough journey, but a rewarding experience. Would salavation be
attained ever without arduous physical discomfort?
