Mathura
- Govardhan Mount Mandir
Redolent
of Balakrishna's boundless compassion for his cow- herd company and exhibiting
his asamana divyalila, this holy region beckons visitation for veneration.
Breathe in the Bhagawan's mahima by stepping on it. II lures all, for the
awe-inspiring episode of lifting the Govardhan hill by Sri Krishna with his left
hand and holding it on the little finger to protect Gopas and their cattle, when
Devendra sent a terrible rain-storm to punish them for dishonouring him. People
undertake perambulation of this sacred Hill for salvation. It is a holy spot
worthy of visitation. The garbha griha is beautified
with Govardhan vimana and the thirthas are called Govardhan, Yamuna and Indra.
The Vana Vihar festival celebrated every year includes this place for yatra,
lasting a week. After this, pilgrims go back to Mathura again.
It lies at a short distance of 10 km from Brindavan, accessible by bus.
