Lying at the confluence of river Mandakini with Alakananda is the additional
sanctity this Divya Desam enjoys, and so holds out special attraction for
indispensable pilgrimage. The sthalapurana enshrines several episodes, like lord
Maheswar's getting rid of Brahmahatyadosha; Kubera's doing penance, Balarama's
image adored in a separate shrine besides beautiful mini-shrines for
Satyanarayana, Narada and Garuda. This can be reached from several points such
as Devaprayaga, Sivanandi and so on and so forth. Pilgrims bound for Badarinath
fail not visiting this Divya Desam and undergo cheerfully any hardship to reach
and adore this Lord Paramapurusha. He lives upto the connotation of His name and
reveals in recumbent posture facing east. Ile Goddess is called Parimalavalli
lhayar. Indira thirtha, Govardhan thirtha and Manasa saras are the holy temple
tanks. The Vimana is called Govardhan Vimana. Agamic nithyanaimithika worship is
offered elaborately to the Lord with due devotional fervor. Tirumangai Alwar
journeyed to this Divya Desam and offered worship with his Pasuramala.
This
is on the way to Badarinath from Devaprayaga, the famous pilgrim centre of Uttar
Pradesh, accessible by State transport or Private buses.
