If we are always busy with good deeds, evil will not come near
us. In the very process of doing good deeds, the evil automatically vanishes from
our mind. Doing good deeds keeps us constantly thinking of God and thereby we earn His
grace all the more. Singing of God Varadaraaja of Kaanchi, Sri Appayya
Deekshitar,
the philosopher-devotee said:
'There may be other poets, O Lord! Who can compose verses in thy name very quickly.
I am a slow poet. But my good fortune is greater than
theirs. For, while I struggle to versify, my mind lingers for a longer time on the
features of thy resplendent Person'.
So
the first stage in the spiritual ladder is the due performance of the obligatory duties
prescribed in the saastras. This should be done not with it view to enjoy the
'fruits of those actions: but purely from a sense of duty and in it spirit of
dedication to God. This' karmaanushtaanam gives 'mental purity and also makes one
eligible for God's grace. The loyal fulfillment of one's own individual Dharma ' is
true praise and true worship of the Lord.
