THE ASRAMAS

At the same time he should continue to recollect the Vedas or lessons he has learnt.

The performance of these Dharmas are called Yajnas or sacrifices. These are five in number: Brahma-Yajna, Pitru-Yajna, Deva-Yajna, Bhuta-Yajna and Manushya-Yajna.

A Grihastha must be truthful and gentle.

In these Yajnas he even prays to be forgiven for unknown sins like stepping over a worm or plucking a flower for worship; for, he believes that even trees and plants have life.

It is the Grihastha’s duty to support his elders, Sanyasis and guests by feeding them.

He must go on pilgrimages to holy kshetras and visit temples and contribute to their upkeep.
